The Rudy May Debut

Today in baseball history back in 1965, California Angels rookie Rudy May, has a no-hitter ruined in the eighth inning of his major league debut by Jake Wood’s double. The Angels lift the south-paw after nine innings of one-hit ball, and unfortunately Detroit wins in 13 innings. In the end May struck out 10 including Don Demeter three times and May himself would collect his first major-league hit off Don McLain. On a side-note, the game was considered a home game for the Angels who were playing at Dodger Stadium at the time (Anaheim Stadium would not open until 1966).
