Topps 1979, #378: Ivan DeJesus. A Happy Birthday to the former shortstop who played 15 seasons from 1974-1988 (Dodgers, Cubs, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Yankees, San Francisco and Detroit). DeJesus who came up with the Dodgers might be best known for being involved in two trades: In 1976, he was traded with Bill Buckner from LA to the Cubs for Rick Monday. Five years later he was dealt to Philadelphia for future Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg and Larry Bowa. Defensively, he had his best season in 1977 when he had 595 assists. His son Ivan Jr. would also make it the show coming up with Dodgers and also playing in Boston and Cincinnati.
Did you know that in 1981 DeJesus batted .194, hit zero home runs and had 13 RBI’s? Why is that interesting? I was the unofficial “anti” triple crown for having the lowest numbers among qualified hitters in average, home runs and runs batted in!
