Outlook: The Lady Sluggers went 36-8 with wins over Warrior Academy, Firecrackers Brashear, Corona Angels-Tyson, Impact Gold-Jackson and Texas Bombers Gold and they finished tied for 5th at the Triple Crown USA Nationals and 3rd at the Alliance 18U Nationals last summer. They went 22-4 with wins over Corona Angels-Tyson and Wichita Mustangs (twice) in the fall. They have already qualified for AFCS 3 this summer. “Elite pitching, solid defense and clutch hitting,” Lady Sluggers coach Jim Huecker said of what it will take to be successful this summer. “I expect us to do all three.” The pitching staff features three hard-throwing lefties and two hard-throwing righties. Three of the pitchers are at least 6-foot-1 and throw in the 65-67 mph range and have experience against big-time competition. They have finesse, speed and power on offense. They have depth, talent and are fundamentally strong on defense.
