Alexis Jensen of Nebraska Gold. Photo courtesy of Craig Boyer.

Tell us about your high school team, Gretna High (NE), and what your goals are this season? Our goals are to be the best team that we can be.

Can you talk about winning the Metro Coaches’ Pitcher of the Year Award last season? I was very grateful and I couldn’t have done it without my teammates.

Can you talk about your experience at the PGF Nationals this past summer? Didn’t go.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? Every team is tough. You just have to prove that you are tougher and can work harder.

Alexis Jensen of Gretna High. Photo courtesy of Alexis Jensen.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? I have overcome people that were better pitchers and having to work harder to make people realize that you can accomplish your goals if you worked hard at them.

Why did you choose to commit to Nebraska? They have amazing coaches and they are so down to Earth and passionate about every single player and person.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I am interested in being a police officer since they are always helping people and willing to put their lives on the line.

Randy Johnson of the Seattle Mariners. Photo by Sports Illustrated.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? Forensics since it is really interesting and I really want to go into that area as either forensic scientist or police.

Who is your sports hero and why? Randy Johnson. He was so intense and he was always focused and very great on getting his outs.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? Brian Johnson’s biography (“The Lives of Brian”) since he is my favorite singer and he has an amazing story from being poor and down on (his) luck to one of the best singers in the world.

What’s the best hype song and why? “Hells Bell’s” (by AC/DC). It starts off with the slow bells then all of a sudden Brian Johnson’s vocals capitalize and make the best song ever.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? My favorite show to binge is “The Blacklist” or “Blue Bloods” since I love the idea of crime and order and how sometimes criminals are the answer to catch others.

What’s your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” since Samuel Jackson and Ryan Reynolds are in the movie. They are always making jokes and having fun.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? I believe I am really good at CrossFit since it helps me on and off the softball field and also helps me dig deep and relax in pressure situations.

Can you tell us about your experience at Alliance Nationals this past summer? My team had a great run this year and we ended 5th in the country for 14U. We faced teams in the tournament that had been tough during the season, but we took the challenge head on and came out with big team and personal wins.

You are related to softball royalty. Your aunt is Jennie Finch. Has she ever given you some advice/tips that have stuck with you? Before PGF in 2019, she talked to my team and told us that “pressure is a privilege” and that we should embrace the nerves that we might be feeling. That has been one thing to really stick with me and a lot of my teammates.

Malaya Majam-Finch of Corona Angels-Tyson. Photo by Jackie Driskill.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? Every team has their own approach and game plan depending on their roster, so being able to identify a team’s advantages is a challenge in itself.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? From a young age, I’ve always been compared to my aunt, Jennie Finch. Although it is a great compliment, there is also a lot of additional pressure that goes with it and learning how to use the pressure and overcome it has been a struggle that I’m proud to have worked through and understood that I put in the work that gets me places.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? Softball has been my life for forever so continuing a future with something in sports would be a dream come true.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? I love English because I enjoy reading different works and understanding the possible views and interpretations.

Who is your sports hero and why? I would say that Megan Faraimo is my sports hero because going through the Angels organization I know the hard work she has put in. I am inspired by her passion, grit and determination.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? My favorite book to read was “The Inner Game of Tennis” (by Timothy Gallwey). This book helped me to understand my inner voices and how to overcome the mental side of sports performance.

What’s the best hype song and why? My favorite pre-game song since I’ve been little has been “Lose Yourself” by Eminem because it does the best on getting me in the zone.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? My favorite show to watch when I just want to relax is “Seinfeld.” I love to laugh and any comedy show is great in my opinion.

What’s your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is “Remember the Titans” because it highlights overcoming adversity and the grind to earn respect.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? I am pretty well versed in the kitchen and can make a mean avocado toast. My specialty drinks are coffees and matcha lattes.

Recruiting: Parker Chooses to Commit to Oklahoma (Sept. 12, 2023)

2025 RHP/MIF Allyssa Parker chose to commit to Oklahoma, Parker announced on Twitter on Tuesday.

Allyssa Parker committed to Oklahoma. Photo courtesy of Allyssa Parker’s Twitter.

“It’s been a dream for me ever since I was little to play for Oklahoma,” Parker told Dugout Chatter on Twitter. “To represent my home state while also having the opportunity to play on the biggest softball stage in the world is amazing to me.

“The coaching staff is like no other, from the way they create a family out of a team to the time they spend to develop their players on and off the field is unmatched. I love the culture at Oklahoma, the ‘Championship Mindset’ is not a lie. I am very competitive at everything I do so to go to a college where competing is a standard feels right to me.

“The way that Oklahoma not only builds players to be their best on the field, but also prepares them to be successful women in life was also a big factor for me. Oklahoma feels like home, besides the fact its my home state, the way the fans interact and support all of the teams is amazing. The feeling I get when I step on campus is unreal, I don’t know if there is any other place I would rather be. BOOMER ☝️”

Parker went 22-2 with a 0.59 ERA and 150 strikeouts and she batted .460 with 20 home runs to help Pocola High teach the Class 2A state title game last fall in Oklahoma.

She also helped Aces Fastpitch Club reach the 18U Alliance Nationals championship series this past summer.

“I’m excited for Allyssa,” Aces coach Ryan Taylor said. “To follow her journey from 10s until now has been incredible.  She has grown tremendously over the past year transitioning to 18U as a sophomore. She had the opportunity to pitch in the national championship game in a 1-0 pitchers’ dual. Allyssa is one of the most athletic kids in the country and has a bright future. Her desire to compete for championships and continue her growth will fit in well with OU’s championship mindset.”

Oklahoma, the three-time defending NCAA WCWS national champions, got commitments from 2025 RHP/1B Sophia Bordi and 2025 C/3B/1B Kendall Wells last week.

THE FINAL PITCH: CAROLINE STANTON

Uncommitted 2026 RHP Caroline Stanton recently talked to Dugout Chatter about Lady Dukes-Lamar/Burgess, Buford High, winning a GHSA 7A state championship, the NFCA High School rankings, Macey Cintron, playing up, future college, medical field, social studies, Jessica Stanton, The Bible, country music, “Outer Banks,” “Legally Blonde” and doing hair.

THE FINAL PITCH Q&A

Caroline Stanton of Buford High. Photo courtesy of Caroline Stanton.

Name: Caroline Stanton

Hometown: Suwanee, GA

High School: Buford High

Club Team: Lady Dukes 18U-Lamar/Burgess

Graduation Year: 2026

Height: 6-foot-0

Position: RHP

Nickname: “C.” My dad started calling me “C” when I was younger when he was coaching me. We had a lot of girls with long names, so he used our first letter, and since then that’s what everyone calls me when I play.

Twitter/Instagram: @CarolineS_2026/@_Carolinestanton

Honors: Region Player of the Year; 1st team All-Region; 1st Team All-County; 1st Team All-State; broke Buford school record with 19 Ks in a single game; and hit 14 HRs and won the Georgia 7A state championship.

Travel Ball Summer Stats: Won and pitched in Triple Crown Nationals against OC BatBusters Stith (2023).

High School Stats (so far): 6-0 with one perfect game and 2 no-hitters.

Caroline Stanton of Lady Dukes-Lamar/Burgess. Photo courtesy of Caroline Stanton.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? I currently play on Lady Dukes-Lamar 18U. After my 12U season, my local travel team fell apart and I was looking for a higher-level national team and that’s when I met Coach James Lamar. One of our high school pitchers, Olivia Duncan, had been playing for him for years and once I met him I knew this was the perfect fit for me! He’s been my biggest supporter and advocate since I started and I am forever grateful for him and this organization.

Tell us about your high school team and winning the GHSA 7A state title last season? This was the most amazing experience as a freshman that I could have ever asked for and my favorite softball memory so far. Buford has always had a strong history in softball and we are blessed to have a lot of extremely talented players, but this last year our chemistry was just different. We worked together as a team, always supporting each other and having each other’s back, which is why I truly believe we won. This is something that our coaches instill in us every day. You can do a lot with just talent, but being a true team makes you unstoppable.

Buford High is ranked #1 in the nation by the NFCA this season. What can you tell us about this year’s group? We have a lot of returning players, who are extremely competitive and talented and we all share the same common goal. This team fights and we have already seen that. We know we have a huge target on our back, but this is what draws us closer together and gives us motivation to take on every opponent coming for us. Besides having a lot of talent, this team also has great chemistry and we have a lot of fun. I am so thankful that I get to play with some of my best friends and be surrounded by the most amazing coaches.

Caroline Stanton of Buford High. Photo courtesy of Buford Softball.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? In high school this year, our toughest team so far has been Wesleyan and the toughest player was their pitcher and my current Lady Dukes travel teammate, Macey Cintron. Our game went into 12 innings still tied and our team came together in the final inning for the win.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? I would say my biggest challenge has been playing up on 18U since I was in the 8th grade. When I first met Coach James Lamar, like I told you, he truly believed in me. When I was finishing my 14U season, he asked me to come to California to play with his 18s. He never doubted me and trusted that I was ready even when I may not have believed it myself. He had me pitch against one of the toughest teams in the county that summer at PGF in front of a lot of college coaches, which was a little nerve wracking. It was an incredible experience that I will forever be grateful for, but it has not always been easy. It’s very comfortable to play in your age group when you can be at the top and strike out most batters, but when you are facing girls that are much older and all going to major Power 5 programs all the way through the lineup this is pretty eye opening. I had some growing pains early on in one of my first games of the summer. I learned from it, though, and grew so much as a player. I have always been highly competitive, but now I had to truly learn how to pitch in specific situations against highly-talented batters. I was super comfortable and confident by the end of the summer and had such an incredible support system from my family, my incredible teammates, who are now some of my best friends, as well as my amazing pitching coaches, Adrienne Chery and Laura Rothrock, who are always here for me and help me prepare for any situation.

What are you looking for in a future college? I want to play at a highly-competitive program with a family-like atmosphere while still having a lot of fun! I want to play in a program that truly cares about you, but will push you to be your best. I want to play for coaches that can develop me and help me elevate my game at the next level and I want to play with girls that have similar goals and love to win!

Caroline Stanton of Lady Dukes-Lamar/Burgess. Photo courtesy of Caroline Stanton.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? Something in the medical field. Both of my parents are in this industry and I have always been super interested and I would like to do something on the sales side of it.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? Social Studies. I love learning about history.

Who is your sports hero and why? My mom (Jessica Stanton), because she was a great college basketball player. She has taught me that her success comes through hard work and having a lot of confidence in your abilities. She has taught me you can do it all and I truly aspire to be a strong woman just like her when I’m older.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? The Bible because it always has the answers to any of my questions and helps me find peace during my struggles. My faith is extremely important to me.

What’s the best hype song and why? I don’t have one song. I just love country music.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? “Outer Banks” because this seems like a fun way to spend the summer if I was not busy playing softball.

What’s your favorite movie and why? “Legally Blonde” because it’s just funny and nothing serious. I can watch it over and over again.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? I’m pretty good at doing hair and normally do the girls’ hair on my team before games.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? First-year 14U I guest played with the team at (PGF) Show Me the Money in Florida. I fell in love with the girls and Josh (Johnson’s) coaching style. I left knowing that I wanted to compete at that level and play with Unity-Johnson. The girls and I push each other to be the best version of ourselves because we all have common goals. And we genuinely love each other like sisters.

Tell us about your high school team and how you did? My high school team had a good season, but lost in the Regional semifinals to a good Kellam team from VA Beach. I was the only freshman to make the team, but was able to step into whatever role the team needed.

Can you tell us about your club team’s 9th-place finish at the PGF 14U Premier Nationals? Our team went 11-2 at PGF Nationals. We started off hot, 5-0, and then lost to a good Beverly Bandits-Norwood team, 2-1. We then went on a run and won four straight in the loser’s bracket before we had to face the Bandits again and lost another close game to end our week. We worked hard and won some tough games.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? The two teams that stand out to me that have been tough opponents this summer are Beverly Bandits-Norwood and Birmingham Thunderbolts-Thompson. Every time that we have played both teams they have been tight games from start to finish.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? In 12U, I suffered a stress fracture in my lower back. I was out for a bit, but after months of rehab and PT to heal and gain back strength, I have learned how important it is to take care of my body and stay healthy.

What are you looking for in a future college? I am looking for a place that feels like home. If I am going to spend four years there, I want to have a family feel to it.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I am interested in sports medicine because I want to continue to work with other athletes and help them stay healthy and teach them the importance of taking care of (themselves).

Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions. Photo courtesy of Sportsbroadcasting.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? I really like Science because I like to know the reasoning behind why things happen.

Who is your sports hero and why? Jennie Finch got me interested in pitching and wanting to work to become a pitcher. But Calvin Johnson, #81 from the Detroit Lions, is a family favorite. Which is also where I get my jersey number from!!

What’s your favorite book to read and why? “The Hunger Games” series (by Suzanne Collins) are my favorites. They kept me interested from start to finish.

What’s the best hype song and why? “Dreams and Nightmares” by Meek Mill. It just gets me hype — I don’t know how to explain it. 🙂

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? “Young Sheldon” because it is a really funny show and I can binge watch it even if I have seen the same episodes before.

What’s your favorite movie and why? “Hidden Figures” because it is based on a true story about strong females.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? I am a PRO at making a goat noise. It’s loud and obnoxious, but you can hear it from a mile away and I LOVE it!!

Uncommitted 2026 RHP/1B Claire Shupe recently talked to Dugout Chatter about Lady Dukes NJ Gold-McHale/Torres, Columbia High, Lady Dukes-MacHale’s 7th-place finish at 14U Alliance Nationals this past summer, OC Batbusters-Fernandez, different paths, future college, math problems, Rachel Garcia, criminal justice, “Pride and Prejudice,” Salt-N-Pepa, “Psych,” “La La Land” and singing.

THE FINAL PITCH Q&A

Name: Claire Shupe

Hometown: Maplewood, NJ

High School: Columbia High

Club Team: Lady Dukes NJ 16U Gold-McHale/Torres

Graduation Year: 2026

Height: 5-foot-8

Position: RHP/1B

Nickname: Everyone just calls me by my last name, but it’s usually more like, “Shuuuuuuupe.”

Twitter: @claireshupe2026

Honors: Essex County Newcomer of the Year (2023); Sectional Tournament MVP; 2nd Team All-Conference; and nominated for Top Freshman in NJ.

High School Stats: Pitching — 87 IP, 1.53 ERA, .920 WHIP, 127 Ks; Batting — .376 AVG, 1.006 OPS, .591 SLG

Travel Ball Summer Stats: Pitching – 121 IP, ERA 1.96, WHIP 1.22, Ks 123; Batting – .349 AVG, .881 OPS, .459 SLG.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? This is the only travel team I’ve been on and our group really feels like family. We’re so close and have a lot of fun together. I’ve been with Coach Shawn (McHale) since our first-year 12U team in 2019 when the organization was still the Renegades. We became the Lady Dukes in the spring of 2021.

Claire Shupe of Lady Dukes. Photo courtesy of Claire Shupe.

Tell us about your high school team and how you did? My high school team had an amazing year, going 21-10. We won our sectional championship for the first time since 1977 and we made it to the semifinals in our county tournament for the first time since 1981. I was so happy to contribute to our success and was honored to be named co-MVP at the end of the season.

Can you talk about Lady Dukes Gold-McHale’s run to 7th place at the Alliance Nationals this past summer? We knew going into Alliance Nationals that we’d be playing the best of the best and we were stoked to show what we were capable of. Early on we fell into the loser’s bracket of Tier 1. But each team member gave 110 percent in order to win the next four games and make it to the Elite 8 in Tier 1. We never gave up and encouraged each other every step of the way. I’m so proud of how we played and we are ready to bring it next year!

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? OC Batbusters-Fernandez has been our toughest opponent this season. We played them five times, losing the first three times and then we won the last two times at Alliance. It’s always a fun game when we play them. They’re a great team with a lot of talent.

Claire Shupe of Columbia High. Photo courtesy of Claire Shupe.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? My older sister and I are only two years apart, so I always felt like I grew up in her shadow. Then I found softball, fell in love and gained something that could make me unique. My sister is an accomplished guitarist, so we both found different paths that make us happy.

What are you looking for in a future college? I hope to be in or near a city and at a softball program that emphasizes academics, but also has a welcoming atmosphere. I want to join a team that makes me feel like part of a family.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? I really love math. My dad is a computer programmer and one of the things we always do together is solve math problems.

Rachel Garcia of UCLA. Photo by NCAA Softball.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? In addition to math, I’m very interested in criminal justice. I hope to have a career where I can help people and grew up watching detective shows.

Who is your sports hero and why? I love to watch Rachel Garcia play, especially when she was a pitcher for UCLA. She was a pitcher who also hit in college, which is my dream. And not only is Rachel fun to watch, she also seems like a great person.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? “Pride and Prejudice” (by Jane Austen) is one of my favorite books to read and I also enjoy the movie. It shows true love in an unlikely situation.

What’s the best hype song and why? When I was younger, my walk-up song was “Shoop” by Salt-N-Pepa, a pun on my last name. Now, it always makes me laugh and eases my nerves.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? My favorite TV show is “Psych,” a comedic detective show. I never get tired of it and there are a lot of episodes.

What’s your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is “La La Land.” I love the story and the music and it’s one of my favorite movie soundtracks.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? I love to sing and have been in choir every school year so far.

SIGNING/COMMITMENT ALERTS

Loula-Rae McNamara has always known where she wanted to play college softball, so it was no surprise she chose to commit to Boise State on Wednesday.

“I randomly found a school project in a box I did for my 5th-grade class,” McNamara said. “It was a newspaper article, written by me, all about Boise and Western Nationals. Maybe, it was just meant to be?!?!?!

“Boise has always been my #1 school since I can remember. So when Justin Shults called and asked me if I wanted to be a Bronco … it was a big YES!!! The dream of playing at Boise Sate began when I was 10 years old and I played in the USA Western Nationals Tournament in Boise. We came in 3rd place! It was the first time a coach talked to us about playing in college and was the first college I remember visiting. Of course, the blue football field left an imprint. Since then I have always said Boise is my #1. So when Justin called and said I could earn a spot in the batting order as a pitcher … it was an easy decision! I truly feel Boise State is a perfect fit for me and the icing on the cake was being given the opportunity to hit as a pitcher!”

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? I joined the I-5 organization in 2019 when I was 11 years old. It was my first travel team and I joined because it was a local team with a good reputation. I’ve continued to stay with this organization because of the success my team has had throughout the years. I-5 coaches have helped me receive great opportunities and they also helped me become a better player physically and mentally. Playing at the highest level of travel ball is what I continue to strive for.

Tell us about your high school team and how you did? When I started playing with my high school team, it was a week before our first league game because I wasn’t able to play until my high school wrestling season was over. We got second in our league and came up short in our CIF run. We didn’t finish how we wanted to, but next year we will work harder and hope to win league, as well go further in our CIF run.

Can you talk about I-5 Ventura-Banbrook/Shea’s run to 7th place at the PGF 14U Premier Nationals this past summer? This summer, we had our ups and downs, but we knew going into PGF we had to have fight. We won our first game of bracket play, but we came up just short in our second game losing, 5-4. After we lost, we knew we knew that it would be a rough journey, but we were ready to play our best softball. Our team played six games in the loser’s bracket and sent home five very good teams. We had to be mentally strong and push through injuries and exhaustion in order to beat those teams. We lost our last game to Tampa Mustangs, who were a good well-rounded team. We had a great run and look forward to more success next year!

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? One of the toughest teams I have ever faced was the Birmingham Thunderbolts Premier 2026-Thompson. I would say this because I remember playing them last year during PGF semifinals. They came out aggressive, had solid pitching, had great hitters and they just wanted to beat us. When we played them, they had lost already to the Beverly Bandits-Norwood, who won PGF Platinum that year. They ended up beating us that first game so now we both had a loss, which meant we had to play them again. I remember that second game we just wanted it more and gave it all we could to win. I think that we gave everything into that game because we wanted to make it to the championship so badly, which we did. We knew that we had to play at our highest level in order to beat this team.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? I think I’ve faced a lot of things that I have had to overcome, but I think the biggest one has been mental blocks. When you start to struggle or you fail, sometimes it can be hard to get up. I feel that it’s easier to crumble, but it’s even harder to stay together. What has helped me overcome some of my mental blocks is that I know if I keep working and pushing myself, it will all work out for me. It can be hard to see when you feel down, but when you are down the only way you can go is up.

What are you looking for in a future college? What I’m looking for in my future college is good academics and to play sports. My desire is to go to a Division 1 University where I can focus on my academics and the sports I love.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? What I’m intrigued in pursuing is becoming a Lawyer. I would like to be able to defend people or just fight for what’s right. I’m also going to continue looking for what suits me the best and keep my options open.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? I enjoy studying history. It’s my favorite because I like knowing what happened in the past and it’s important to understand where we came from.

Who is your sports hero and why? My sports hero is Kobe Bryant. I look up to him because of his mentality and his determination for the game. His mentality inspires me because he wanted to be the best and he was always looking for things to improve on. I know if I push myself like he did I will continue to grow and become a better person overall.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? My favorite book I read was “Born a Crime” by Trevor Noah. It was my favorite book because he explained the obstacles he had to overcome. He also changed his life story into a more positive one, even though it was a rough journey.

What’s the best hype song and why? The best hype song for me is “Hate It or Love It” (by The Game). I love listening to this song because it gets me pumped up whenever I’m about to perform and I feel like I could do anything when I listen to this song.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? My favorite TV show to binge is “Zoey 101.” I just always found it cool that the kids went to a boarding school near the beach and they basically did whatever they wanted to do.

What’s your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is “Bad Boys.” I liked those movies because it was just a really funny movie and the action in the movie was pretty cool.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? I wrestle and play flag football as well. I’ve been wrestling since I was 7 years old and in 2017 I won the California State Tournament. I joined flag football this year because it just recently became a sport at my school.
