Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? The Texas Glory organization is about finding a home for you in college and also making lifetime friends. Our travel team has been bonding for two years and I am the team captain along with Brooke Wells. We have improved every step — going from 3rd place (at) the Colorado Sparkler to 1st place in the Alliance (Nationals). We strive to be the best and that is what we work towards. We have built a family that you can lean on and last forever.

Tell us about your high school team and how you did? My high school team (had) some ups and downs, but it’s one family. Some days aren’t the best and we go through good and bad as a team. I pitched every game and I was the top hitter as well. I was the most positive person on the team. When we are down by 8, I was still up and cheering for my teammates.

Can you talk about your team’s run to the 16U Alliance national title? OMG. Our team’s run to the championship was incredible to say the least. We had walk-off home runs, amazing pitching and amazing defense all throughout the tournament. We knew once we lost the first game in the championship series that we had to punch back and win. In the words of Ed Naudin, “ No one beats us twice.” Everyone was playing for one another and we used that to get to the championship.

Can you talk about your thoughts of pitching in the AFCS national championship series? My thoughts about pitching in the championship series were to hold them to 0 or 1 run and rely on offense and defense to back me up. I knew that we could win if we got ahead first, then hold them from there.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? The toughest team would be Impact Gold-Jazz because I have been pitching against them since 14U. In the final game against them, we had to change the approach. The first game that I pitched was basically only throw outside to them, then on the final game we went inside and outside against them. We have to change it up each game. I pitched back-to-back games and still had to keep them on their toes.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? During 10U and 12U, I was always second or third string in the pitching rotation. I had to work 10 times harder to make starting pitcher. I worked five times a week to get ahead of everyone and try to become top pitcher for the team. Now, I am one of the starting pitcher for our team.

Why did you choose to commit to Central Arkansas? I committed to Central Arkansas because of the amazing coaching staff and when I stepped foot on the campus it felt like a second home to me.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I am interested in coaching college for my occupation because I helped out my little sister’s team in the past and that really opened my eyes to coaching. I also want to get a degree in teaching high-school level math because that’s my favorite subject in school

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? Math because there isn’t a lot of reading or writing in it.

Who is your sports hero and why? Paige Parker because I grew up watching her pitch at Oklahoma. She was one of the best pitchers I had ever seen and I strove to be such a great pitcher.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? “Watch Over Me” by Mila Gray because that was the first chapter book I have read and I fell in love with the writing.

What’s the best hype song and why? “End Game” by Taylor Swift because the music is really up-beat and really gets me going for the game.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? “Criminal Minds” because I love the science and mystery.

What’s your favorite movie and why? “10 Things I Hate About You” because I love the plot to the movie.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? Art.

***LSC junior center fielder Ciara Briggs recently won her second consecutive Rawlings Gold Glove Award. Briggs has been an amazing player to watch develop. Her parents, Ken and Roseann Briggs, co-founded the BSC Bengals softball club organization a couple of years ago. BSC Bengals-CKM captured the PGF 12U Premier national title on Aug. 6, the first PGF title in the organization’s history.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? My travel team is my family. We have created such a bond with each other it makes playing the game so much more fun and stress-free!

Tell us about your high school team and how you did? I love playing with my high school team. We all come from very good softball backgrounds and being able to play for our school is an awesome experience. Also, shout out to our head coach Larry Loger and our assistant coach Pete Cordova … they are amazing!

Can you tell us about your team’s run to the PGF 16U national championship? We had a great run at Nationals. winning the Premier 16U championship. It was a life-changing experience, one that I will never forget.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? The BSC Bengals(-Briggs) have been our toughest competitors. We played them three times during Nationals.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? When I was 10 (years old), I broke my ankle playing softball. It was a very bad brake causing me to get two screws inserted into my growth plate that are still there today. Having to sit out for five months while watching everyone else grow at the sport was definitely a big setback for me. Once I finally got cleared to play again, I knew I needed to work double the time to be able to get back to where I was a keep competing at the best level.

What are you looking for in a future college? How are you approaching Sept. 1? I am hoping that September first comes with lots of joy. It has always been my dream to be able to play at the Division 1 level and with the timeline coming so close, there are so many mixed emotions, but overall so excited to see what the sport has in store for me. In college aspects, I just want a school with a beautiful campus with great programs.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I am very interested in the medical field. With both my parents being first responders, I have grown up listening to their stories coming back from work and I just love hearing about how they can help someone every day.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? My favorite subject to study in school is probably anything science-related. Being able to learn about how things came about and our bodies is so interesting to me.

Who is your sports hero and why? My sports hero would have to be my dad, (Jeff Lee). He broke many records at my high school in track and I strive to break records just like he did.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? “The Hunger Games.” I love the movies and reading the books feels like I am watching the movies all over again.

What’s the best hype song and why? My favorite hype song is probably “Turn My Swag On” by Soulja Boy.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? My favorite TV (show) to binge definitely has to be “Criminal Minds.” I have watched the whole show twice.

What’s your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie, probably, (is) any Marvel movie. They are really the only movies I can stay entertained (by).

Do you have a secret talent/skill? I am really good at skiing.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? It’s a high-level organization that plays at the very top level. One of the best organizations to play for to get recruited. I got involved in 14U after a few people gave me good recommendations!

Tell us about your high school team and how you did? Our high school was built mainly on underclassmen. We have one senior and four juniors. Our team won TEC All-Conference and Sections for the fourth time in a row! We lost in Regionals 3-4 in 8 innings. We had a great season, but with many returners and the incoming freshmen, we hope for an even better season this year.

Can you talk about your team’s run to the PGF 18U Premier national-title game? It was a bitter-sweet ride. Sage (Mardjetko) pitched amazing to allow us to stay in the winner’s bracket and play a minimum amount of games. The team came together on offense to produce the amount of runs needed. Our slappers were awesome for getting on and putting the power hitters in a good place to score. Although the ending wasn’t exactly what we wanted, the team played great throughout the tournament. I couldn’t be more proud of what this team has done.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? I would say (Tennessee) Mojo-Danley/Fisher because of the all-around great team they have. It was a very low-scoring game when we played them in (PGF) Nationals. Their pitchers didn’t allow us to do much and kept us on our toes in the box. Sage pitched an amazing game and also kept their hitters on their toes and caused many strikeouts. I hit a home run during the game to get us on the board. It was a very hard-fought game all 7 innings. I’m glad we came out on top!

Why did you choose to commit to Auburn? I chose Auburn because of the family environment that the coaches created. I appreciate the level of focus on both academic and softball the coaches put in. I fell in love with the school and the great program for my education.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I want to major in Pharmacy and minor in Agriculture. I want to do medical research on herbal medication. The research programs that have been put in for Parkinson’s and other diseases drew me to this field. I also enjoy helping others and this way I could help others and enjoy doing my job!

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? Chemistry or Math. I enjoy doing labs and I enjoy solving problems and getting to the answer.

Who is your sports hero and why? Kobe Bryant because he worked extremely hard. He loved passing the game on to the younger generation. He made the sport fun even though it was a job. He pushed himself to be the best he could be both as a person and an athlete.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? “The Mamba Mentality” by Kobe Bryant because it was interesting to read about his mindset. It showed how hard you need to work to be great.

What’s the best hype song and why? “Call It Quits” by Jelly Roll (Crypt and Adam Calhoun) because it talks about never giving up on your dreams no matter what obstacles you face.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? “Grey’s Anatomy” because I enjoy watching the medical side of things. I also enjoy watching the surgeries and how doctors can change people’s lives.

What’s your favorite movie and why? “The Princess and the Frog” because it’s about a young girl with a dream. She works very hard to achieve this dream and make her family proud.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? Future Farmers of America (which includes archery/hunting/gardening).

Tell us about your high school team and how you did? We did good this year. We didn’t end like we wanted to, but we made a run at state and couldn’t be more proud of this team. They became family to me over these past months.

Can you talk about your team’s run to the PGF 14U Premier national championship? We all wanted to win because last year it didn’t (end) like we wanted to, so this year we knew what we could do and what we were capable of doing and we all just stuck together and did for each other. We became natty champs!!

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? The competition is always hard when we play teams we are always gonna get their best game. But I would say the Beverly Bandits. It’s always a dogfight between us.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? Just being raised by a single mom and having five brothers has made me tough and competitive. My brothers have always pushed me and made me better and my mom has sacrificed everything for us to play all our sports.

What are you looking for in a future college? A college that treats me like family.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I really don’t know what profession I want to pursue in college, but I do know I want to play sports at the next level. My heart is basketball and softball and, maybe, I’ll pursue something to do with the sports’ side of a career.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? I play for the Batbusters, a strong organization out of Orange County. I first found this team after I played against them in the Clearwater tournament and I was super impressed and knew that was the type of team I wanted to play for. I then was able to join the team the following fall season and knew it was the right place.

Tell us about your high school team and how you did? I’ve gotten very lucky these past years in high school ball getting to play for a great coach and having a great team to play with. We all have a strong bond and the same end goals. This past year as a team we accomplished a lot. We also won our second state title in a row and I was able to help out by throwing four perfect games in the playoffs!

Can you talk about OC Batbusters-Stith’s run to the Alliance national title? Our run to the title was definitely one to remember!! We had a lot of games leading up to the series where the energy was unmatched! There were also times where some girls came up in big moments like Izzy Mertes, Kai Minor and Ella Parker. The championship series games we got challenged with a tough Aces’ team with a strong pitcher. Although we faced some challenges, we made adjustments and came out on top!

Can you give us some insights about your no-hitter in the AFCS national championship series? Did you know you had a no-hitter? Are you superstitious? I’m proud of how I threw that game! I was able to use my pitches to throw the batters off and strike them out or just force a pop up or groundball. Up until around the 6th inning I had no clue I was throwing a no-hitter until someone had mentioned it and although I was excited, I couldn’t let that get in the way and I had to finish strong. My superstition is every time I play I wear an evoshield shirt under my jersey. I have been doing it every game since 12U.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? I think our toughest opponent is Athletics Mercado. They always challenge us and put on a great game. They always play well and they are strong in all aspects of the game.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? Since I was in 12U, I had started to play a little with the older girls in practice and in games. That has always pushed me to want to be better, so that I was able to perform at the same level as they did. That had also helped me push myself mentally, so that I can believe I was able to and so that I didn’t show whenever I was frustrated or upset.

What are you looking for in a future college? What are your thoughts on Sept. 1? In a future college, I’m looking for a place where I am going to have fun but also be pushed to be my best. I want to be somewhere where I know I will be constantly challenged to be the best version of myself. I’m really excited for September 1st!! I think it’s going to be interesting to finally be able to get to talk to the coaches after what seems like a century of waiting.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I would like to study something that has to do with sports or something I can do that will keep me near it. I think it would be exciting being able to find a job in a field I’m passionate about.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? I enjoyed chemistry because I like conducting the labs that were assigned. My teacher helped make a class that I thought was going to be challenging fun.

Who is your sports hero and why? Kobe Bryant. Kobe inspired me with his mental side of the game. He always showed an unmatched level of persistence and determination while chasing his dreams.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? “The Hate U Give” (by Angie Thomas). It teaches you about the struggles with racism and gives you another perspective of what people go through in life.

What’s the best hype song and why? “Headlines” by Drake. I’m a huge Drake fan and this song is always able to get me hyped up before the games and put me in the right mindset.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? “Criminal Minds” because I like seeing how they solve each case.

What’s your favorite movie and why? “Purple Hearts” is my favorite movie ever. It’s heartwarming and has huge plot twist.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? Baking. I make cakes for my family birthdays. I also enjoy making all types of cookies!

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? Coach (Johnny) Manetta is known as the top coach in the area. When I was 12 (years old), he invited me to practice with his team of 14- and 15-year-old girls. I was able to improve under his training and was fortunate enough to start playing with his team.

Tell us about your high school team and how you did? My high school team is a very young but talented group of girls. We are fortunate to have Coach Manetta as the coach. My freshman year, we lost in the state semifinals and my sophomore year we lost by one run in the state championship game. We had no seniors on our team, so we are looking forward to another run next season.

Can you talk about your Rock Gold Manetta’s run to the PGF 18U Premier national title? It was a pretty magical run. We were fortunate to win last year’s (PGF) 18U Platinum championship. Once we returned this year for the (PGF 18U) Premier championship, we knew it was going to be difficult playing against some very tough teams, but this team started to click after our first game really playing as a team. Everyone stepped up and we were blessed to win again.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? OC Batbusters-Stith was our toughest opponent this summer. We lost to them in a very close game at IDT. Their entire team was full of talent and was a very fun team to play.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? I had a serious ankle injury two years ago, which kept me off my feet and the game for four months. It was a very challenging time, but I kept faith in God and came back strong both mentally and physically. I was able to heel up as it never even happened. The injury made me love the game even more!

What are you looking for in a future college? How are you approaching Sept. 1? I’m looking to find a place to call home for four years. I’m looking to find a coaching staff that will invest in me as much as I plan to invest in them. I want to be at a school who’s culture fits my beliefs. My ultimate goal is to help the team win championships.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I love sports and softball. I have interest in sports management, which could lead to coaching, broadcasting or being an executive or AD in professional or college athletics.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? English as I really like to write papers.

Who is your sports hero and why? Kobe Bryant as he worked harder than anyone so he could be the very best. His hard work led to his team winning many championships.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? “The Twin Thieves” (by Lucas Jadin and Steve Jones) as it’s a great story based around sports and something that has helped me become a better athlete.

What’s the best hype song and why? Don’t have one.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? “Outer Banks.”

What’s your favorite movie and why? “The Miracle Season.”

Do you have a secret talent/skill? I was a competitive gymnast prior to starting softball in the 5th grade.

TEXAS BOMBERS RETOOL 18U TEAM

Two summers ago, Scott Smith’s Texas Bombers Gold finished as runner-up to the 18U Alliance national championship. This season, they finished 9th at the Triple Crown Colorado 4th of July 18U National Power Pool and 9th at the 18U Alliance Nationals.

Texas Bombers Gold-Malpass won the 14U Alliance national championship in 2022 and Texas Bombers Gold-Smith placed 3rd at the 16U Alliance Nationals this summer. Smith has retooled his 18U Texas Bombers Gold for the 2023-24 season.

“We’ve been building towards this year,” Smith said.

They picked up Florida-committed 2024 OF Towsen Thomas from Texas Blaze United, probably the biggest get for the club. Smith said the club hit 103 homers this past season, but the addition of Thomas makes them faster and returns the balance to the offense.

2025 C/SS Elsa Morrison, the Gatorade State Player of The Year from Tennessee, Houston-committed 2024 RHP/UT/3B/1B Madison Hartley, Texas A&M-committed 2024 OF Harley Vestal, Texas A&M-committed 2024 C/1B DeeDee Baldwin, Arizona State-committed 2024 RHP/1B Cambree Creager and Texas Tech-committed RHP/OF Brenlee Gonzales return from the Texas Bombes Gold team from this past summer.

“I think she’s the best 2025 in the nation.” Smith said of Morrison.

2025 OF/SS Kinley Keller, 2026 MIF Brooklyn Gidley, 2025 1B/3B Laila Nobles and 2025 C/SS/3B Meiko Dominguez are on the 18U team after winning a 14U Alliance national title with Texas Bombers Gold-Malpass in 2022.

They picked up 2026 SS Anabela Abdullah, a member of U15 Team USA and Tampa Mustangs.

They promoted LSU-committed 2024 3B/MIF Alix Franklin from 18U Bombers American, 2025 RHP/UT Hailey Nutter from 16U Texas Bombers Gold and added 2024 OF Kelsie Riggan OF from Florida, who recently reopened he recruiting.

“We brought back every piece of power from that lineup, but we added so much speed,” Smith said. “We’re going to be very balanced. We’re going to be super fast, super athletic. It’s going to be fun to see that team come together.”

***2025 MIF/CF/UT MaTaia Lawson hit 29 home runs in 47 games for Iowa Premier National 16U-Dickel this past season. That’s one homer for every 4 at-bats. She had 66 RBIs. She had 25 walks, many intentional … and that’s all from the leadoff spot.

“I just try to do my job in the game,” Lawson said, “anything to win and help my team.”

She’s also one of the top-100 club volleyball players in the country.

***2025 MIF/OF/UT Ava Segura, who previously with Carolina Elite National 16U-Fusetti, joined Top Gun National 18U.

“I am moving up to 18U this year, so I was looking at different options,” Segura said. “After talking to Coach Bob Turner, I really became interested in the Top Gun organization. They have a super-talented roster and great coaching staff that I know will push me to become a better player. I wanted to find an organization that could continue developing me to grow as a player and a person. I really like the Top Gun philosophy that they can teach more then just softball.” …

Uncommitted 2025 3B/1B Emma Knight of Texas Bombers Gold 16U-Smith has joined the Dugout Chatter Blogging Crew and she provided her insights and analysis all summer.

She had a strong season and recently helped Texas Bombers Gold 16U-Smith finish in 3rd place in 16U Tier 1 AFCS.

Here’s her blog for Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023:

We just finished up the Alliance National Championship in Cali (two weeks ago). We had an amazing run and ended up finishing 3rd overall in the tournament out of around 115 teams.

We played some of the best competition out there and showed what our team was made of. It was, honestly, one of the most fun tournaments I’ve ever played. I ended up having one of my best weeks of the summer. I hit the ball hard all week and ended up having a couple of home runs, one of them being a go-ahead three-run bomb in the biggest game of the week.

I was also lucky enough to be named to the 16u All-Tournament Team for Tier 1. I am super sad we finished up just a little short, but I am also so proud of what we all accomplished this week.

I can’t believe that this summer season has already come to an end. It feels like just the other day we were playing our first tournament together! I am so excited to see what there is to come for this fall and I can’t wait to be on a field again playing with this team!

FISHER, RAMSEY FORM MOJO SUPER TEAM

PGF and Alliance Nationals were held the past two weeks and teams across the country are already busy forming their new teams for the 2023-34 season. Josh Fisher and Ramsey Harkness, who have been friends and coached together since 2020, have come together to form a new 18U club called Tennessee Mojo-Ramsey/Fisher that features a lot of top payer from around the country.

2025 C June McCune, who has played for the Lady Dukes and Virginia Unity organizations, joined Tennessee Mojo-Ramsey/Fisher.

“I am so so excited!” McCune said. “I loved my time on the Dukes, but it felt like the right time to move forward and see what else the future holds. This amazing opportunity came unexpectedly and it felt right! I’m thrilled to play on a team with a bunch of ballers. At the end of the day, I just wanna play softball and I’m ready to work hard for this team and with this team.”

Fisher recently announced the roster and said he could probably add a couple of more players. …

***Coach Joey Palmer said Mojo 2027-Palmer is combining with Hotshots National 09 to build a “super team.” More to come …

***2029 CF Devaeh Crawford had a fine season with Power Surge 12U. She batted .462 with 103 hits, six HRs, 100 runs and 54 RBIs. …

***2027 RHP/1B Lucy George (6-foot-1), who previously played for the Indiana Gators, joined Beverly Bandits Premier-Hardin/Chow.

“I am super excited to be joining them for this next season,” George said. “I used to play for the Indiana Gators and I was really looking for a team to push me to the next level. I know that I will be playing against the best. (Bandits coach) Kyle Hardin had a need for another pitcher to join his talented team. I have always liked being on a team with other strong pitchers because it always pushes me to work hard.

“I enjoy softball more when I am put in stressful pitching situations against tough teams because I know it’s making me a better pitcher. The Beverly Bandits (are) a top-level program that plays the best teams. When you face another team you know you are getting their best and that’s exactly the situation I want to be in.” …

***2026 UT Genevieve “Gigi” Payne, who previously played for Virginia Glory-Long, joined Top Gun National STL 16U. …
