THE FINAL PITCH: ISSIE COKER

Uncommitted 2025 C/UT Issie Coker recently talked to Dugout Chatter about Impact Gold 2025 National-Cassatta, Parklane Academy, Mississippi softball players, Brookhaven Academy, Faith, future college, giving back, math, Yadier Molina, The Bible, KB, “All American” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

THE FINAL PITCH Q&A

Name: Issie Coker

Hometown: Pricedale, MS

High School: Parklane Academy

Club Team: Impact Gold 2025 National-Cassatta 16U

Graduation Year: 2025

Height: 5-foot-9

Position: C/UT

Nickname: “Big Iss” (was) given to me by coaches when I was younger and stood a foot taller than the other girls my age.

Twitter: @IssieCoker_hits

Honors: 2nd Team District 1 5A All-Conference (2020); 1st Team District 1 6A All-MAIS; 1st Team District 1 6A All-Conference (2021); All-MAIS Pre-Season “Top 20” Team (2022); 2022 All-MAIS Pre-Season Fast Pitch Softball Team (2022); Preseason Fastpitch All-MAIS (2023); MAIS Fastpich Futures Team (2022); and MAIS Fastpitch Futures Team (2023).

Travel Ball Summer Stats: .345 AVG, .486 OBP, .638 SLG, 4 HRS, 17 RBIs, 15 BBs and 5 Ks.

High School Stats (so far): .500 AVG, .614 OBP, 1.031 SLG, 9 HRs, 17 RBIs, 15 BBs and 3 Ks.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? Early on in travel ball, I played with some really great coaches, but I was drawn to Impact Gold-Cassatta due to the coaching staff. I knew they would push me to be better. The head of the Impact Gold organization, Coach Jazz (Jackson Vesely), takes interest in getting players to the next level.

Tell us about your high school team and how you are doing? My high school team is amazing. We have an unbreakable bond and we play as one. The encouragement amongst teammates is next level. No one carries a burden alone.

What makes Mississippi softball players different/special? Softball is growing in Mississippi. Mississippi hasn’t always been recognized as a hot spot for softball talent, but we have some real gems here.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? Brookhaven Academy has been a tough one this year. It’s a local rivalry with great competition and both times we have played them this year it has come down to a single run.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? I am who I am today because of my faith. God blessed me with a talent and I work hard on and off the field to allow others to see him through me.

What are you looking for in a future college? I’m looking for a place like home where i’m surrounded by people who support me on and off the field.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I haven’t decided what I want to do as a career, but I do know it will involve helping others and giving back to my community.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? Math. I’m not really sure why it’s my favorite, but it has always been the easiest for me.

Who is your sports hero and why? Yadier Molina. He is a nine-time Gold Glove-winning catcher and 10-time All-Star. I used to watch YouTube videos of him throwing out runners on the way to my games.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? The Bible. I’m not a cover-to-cover reader, but I read to find inspiration and to process situations.

What’s the best hype song and why? “I Am Not The One” by KB. It is my hype song because not only does it have an awesome beat, but it is also a Christian song (and) talks about knowing who you are no matter what people say.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? “All American” because it is so real.

What’s your favorite movie and why? “Pirates of the Caribbean” because it’s a good Disney adventure.

THE FINAL PITCH: MADISYN “MADDIE” WEATHERS

Uncommitted 2025 C/3B Madisyn “Maddie” Weathers recently talked to Dugout Chatter about Nationals-Sars, East Coweta High history, North Gwinnett High, Buford High, overcoming a knee injury, future college, child psychology, geometry, Jessi Warren, Colleen Hoover, Archie Eversole, “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” “A League of Their Own” and TikTok dancing.

THE FINAL PITCH Q&A

Name: Madisyn “Maddie” Weathers

Hometown: Senoia, GA

High School: East Coweta High

Club Team: Nationals-Sars 16U

Graduation Year: 2025

Height: 5-foot-7

Position: C/3B

Nickname: My nickname is Maddie, but my parents call me “Maddawg.”

Twitter/Instagram: @MadisynWeathers/@maddieweatherss

Honors: 1st Team All-County (2021); and Honorable Mention All-District for 2AAAAAAA (2021).

Travel Ball Summer Stats: .468 AVG, .523 OBP, 1.406 OPS, 44 hits, 7 HRs and 42 RBIs.

High School Stats (So far): 15 games, .489 AVG, .500 OBP, 1.682 OPS, 28 hits, 10 HRs and 37 RBIs.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? My dad had always communicated with Coach John Sars about softball, but I was happily in another organization. Soon enough, we learned that moving to his team, Carolina Cardinals Nationals, which is now the Nationals, would be the best fit for me. I fell in love with the girls and the bond we all have together. I can count on them for anything and the team is like one big family and I love it.

Madisyn Weathers celebrates with her East Coweta High teammates. Photo courtesy of Coweta Score.

Can you tell us about East Coweta High’s softball history and where you fit in the mix? East Coweta has won 3 AAAAAAA state championships in the past six years and two runner-ups. We also have 13 straight Region championships. I always looked up to girls who came through the organization like Rachel Vaughn, who just graduated from South Carolina. The first East Coweta kiddie camp I went to I thought she was the coolest person ever and wanted to be like her one day! Seven years later, I got my opportunity to be a freshman starter for the East Coweta Lady Indians and I was not passing it up!

Who is your biggest high school rival and why? Our biggest high school rival is definitely North Gwinnett High. They have a great program and we have gone back and forth with state championships. In 2021, we came up short, and in 2020 East Coweta defeated them, 2-1. I always love playing them because I know it’s going to be a great game.

Madisyn Weathers of East Coweta High. Photo by Paula Stubbs.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? The toughest team we have played has to be Buford High. Their program is just great and they unfortunately beat us last year to win the state championship. Even though last year was a tough loss, we are coming for them this year. I don’t really have someone who is a “tough opponent” to me. My mindset is if they beat me once, I promise that they won’t beat me again.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? The beginning of last year I was practicing with a friend when the unimaginable happened. I ended up tearing my ACL and meniscus and couldn’t play for a year. I want to give a BIG shoutout to Dr. Thomas Myers for doing an amazing job on my knee. He made sure that we took it easy and that I was 100 percent when I came back. I still supported my teams at tournaments, games and practices throughout the seasons, but it was very hard not being able to be on the field. I learned how to be a great teammate. This February, I got to be back and play again. I haven’t looked back ever since. One thing I have learned through this is to play every game like it’s your last because you never know how quickly it can be taken away. Just. Like. That.

What are you looking for in a future college? What are you doing for recruiting? I am looking for a place that isn’t far from home, but a place that also feels like it. My top school right now is only two hours away from my house. I want to go somewhere where the coaches are the same coaches that they are when they first meet you, then behind closed doors they don’t change. Before September 1st, I emailed my top-five colleges three times every week.

Madisyn Weathers of Nationals-Sars at Jacksonville State Softball Camp. Photo by Jacksonville State Softball.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? In college, I want to do Child Psychology. When I am older, I want to have my own office where I can work with troubled or mentally-disabled kids. I want to give back to the community and help in any way I can.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? My favorite subject has to be Geometry because I am surprisingly really good at like multiplication, adding and subtracting with shapes, but that’s about it.

Who is your sports hero and why? My sports heroes have to be Jessi Warren, Megan Wiggins and Megan Good. They were my coaches last spring and this spring when I came back and that was the best and most fun I have ever had playing. I was so blessed to have a coaching staff like them. In 2018, I was there when Jessi made her famous catch and I have always wanted to be just like her ever since.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? I love reading Colleen Hoover’s books. She is the best author in my opinion, but I need to try more books.

What’s the best hype song and why? My all-time favorite hype song is “We Ready” by Archie Eversole. I gets me so turnt every time I hear it.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? I love love love to binge watch “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” It’s such a happy show and my mom loves watching it with me even though she’ll never admit it.

What’s your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is definitely “A League of Their Own.” It shows them overcoming people who didn’t believe in them.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? My secret talent is that I can actually dance really good. I post a TikTok like every day, so, maybe, one day it won’t be a secret anymore.

THE FINAL PITCH: SYDNEY ROOT

Uncommitted 2028 RHP/MIF Sydney Root recently talked to Dugout Chatter about Arizona Storm National-Kobasew, Xavier College Preparatory, PGF Nationals, Arizona softball players, BSC Bengals-CKM, future college, lawyer, social studies and world history, Kobe Bryant, “The Outsiders,” Rihanna or Drake, “Outer Banks,” “Home Alone” and flag football.

THE FINAL PITCH Q&A

Name: Sydney Root

Hometown: Phoenix, AZ

Middle School: St. John Bosco Catholic

Future High School: Xavier College Preparatory

Club Team: Arizona Storm 14U National-Kobasew

Graduation Year: 2028

Position: RHP/MIF

Nickname: My nickname is Syd.

Twitter: @SydneyRoot_2028

Honors: PGF 12U Premier Nationals runner-up (2023); Triple Crown Zoom into June 12U runner-up (2023); Power 48 14U champions (2023); three-time Arizona state champions (2023, 2022 & 2021); and PGF 12U Platinum Nationals runner-up (2022).

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? My coach came to watch me play when I was 9 years old. I was wearing a pink helmet and I tripped over third base when I was running to home, but luckily he still wanted me on the team. We started out as the AZ Diamonds when we were in 10U and our team moved over to the AZ Storm organization in 12U.

Tell us about your future high school team? I hope to be accepted into Xavier College Prep, which is a Catholic high school here in Phoenix. Their softball team won the state championship two years ago.

Can you talk about your experience at the PGF Nationals this past summer? PGF is by far my favorite tournament. This past summer, we played for the national championship for the second straight year, but came up short. We played some really exciting games, including two must-win games against the Beverly Bandits in the semifinals. The first game we won, 2-1, in the bottom of the 7th inning. We were down to our final out and our final strike, but our team came through to win it! We turned right around and played the Bandits again with the winner advancing to the championship. The second game was even more exciting, going 11 innings with four innings of ITB and we won again, 2-1. Our defense was amazing, making big plays in both games.

Sydney Root of Arizona Storm National-Kobasew. Photo courtesy of Arizona Storm National-Kobasew.

We have many fun traditions and superstitions at PGF, including eating at the same restaurant and ordering the same meals for dinner when we are on a winning streak. We also wear our hair the same, ride in the same spots in the car to each game and this year our assistant coach brought a portable ice bath, so every night at the hotel, my teammates and I would take turns in the cold plunge.

What makes a softball player from Arizona different/special? We develop a toughness by practicing in 100-plus degree heat for four months out of the year. Our team is also special because as a national team, all of our players are from the Phoenix area (no out-of-state players) and eight of us are starting our fourth season of playing together.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? The BSC Bengals-CKM are a very tough opponent in our age division. They have great pitching and they can hit. We also play up in older age divisions a lot. Playing against older teams is a great challenge for us and has definitely made us a better team by going up against girls who may be faster and stronger.

What are you looking for in a future college? I want to find a college that has a good education and softball program. I’m interested in such schools as University of Washington, Duke University and The Ohio State University.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I want to be a lawyer when I am older.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? I like to learn about Social Studies and World History.

Who is your sports hero and why? My sports hero is Kobe Bryant. I admire his work ethic … “Outwork Everyone.”

What’s your favorite book to read and why? My favorite book to read is “The Outsiders” (by S.E. Hinton).

What’s the best hype song and why? The best hype song is anything by Rihanna or Drake.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? I like to watch “Outer Banks.”

What’s your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is “Home Alone” because I love Christmas.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? I love playing flag football. Our softball team played in a flag football league, going up against all the boys and it was a lot of fun.

Recruiting: Minor Decides to Join Oklahoma (Sept. 15, 2023)

2025 CF Kai Minor, a back-to-back 18U Alliance national champion for OC Batbusters-Stith, committed to Oklahoma, the lefty slapper with power announced on Twitter on Friday.

Kai Minor of Orange Lutheran High. Photo courtesy of Kai Minor.

“It feels great to be going into a program that is bigger than softball,” Minor said. “It is a family and we all are in each other’s corner always.”

Minor batted .423 (33 of 78) with 20 runs and 13 RBIs and the speedster stole 24 of 25 bases and was named the Trinity League’s Player of the Year for Orange Lutheran High (CA) as a sophomore. She played in the Alliance Futures All-Star game this summer.

Minor is the fifth highly-touted 2025 prospect to commit to Oklahoma since Sept. 1, joining 2025 RHP/1B Sophia Bordi, 2025 C/3B/1B Kendall Wells, 2025 RHP/MIF Allyssa Parker and 2025 IF Lexi McDaniel at Oklahoma, the three-time defending WCWS national champion.

“Kai is joining a long line of great athletes that want to learn more and grow to get better,” Batbusters coach Mike Stith said. “She is becoming a very sharp student of her craft and right now everyone is trying to catch Oklahoma, yet, they still continue to attract those dynamic athletes that want so much more from softball. Our sport is changing in a good way. Technology, expanded coverage, conferences expanding lends itself to those that want to take this to a whole different level. At any sport, there are paths less traveled by great players and Kai has chosen that path. Still lots of work to do, but she is quite motivated to be great.”

THE FINAL PITCH: CARLY MEYER

Uncommitted 2027 CF Carly Meyer recently talked to Dugout Chatter about Midwest Speed National-Wagner, Hudson High, finishing 9th at 14U Alliance Nationals, OC Batbusters-K. Stith/Black, overcoming minor problems, future college, biomedical sciences and engineering, math, Grace Lyons, “Legend,” “Mulan,” NF, “Gilmore Girls” and cooking.

THE FINAL PITCH Q&A

Carly Meyer of Midwest Speed. Photo by Midwest Speed.

Name: Carly Meyer

Hometown: Hudson, WI

High School: Hudson High

Club Team: Midwest Speed 15U National-Wagner

Graduation Year: 2027

Height: 5-foot-3

Position: OF

Nickname: My nickname is Carls/Carl. My sister originally came up with it and started referring to me as Carls and it just stuck with me for softball.

Twitter/Instagram: @CMeyer2027/@cmeyer2027

Honors: Showtime Sports Running Competition (10.99 Home-to-Home)

Travel Ball Summer Stats: 40 games, 115 plate appearances, 94 at-bats, .351 AVG, .451 OBP, .919 OPS, .468 SLG, 33 hits, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HRs, 20 RBIs, 12 BBs, 38 SBs and .964 fielding percentage.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? My travel team is with Midwest Speed. I started with them in 12U after I decided I wanted to take my softball game to another level. I’ve been with them ever since.

Tell us about your future high school team? My future high school team is going to be pretty young. We had quite a few seniors graduate last year and there’s a large amount of sophomores and freshmen coming this year. We just got a new coach, so I think we’ll be more disciplined this year and more connected as a team.

Carly Meyer of Midwest Speed. Photo by Angel Johnson.

Can you tell us about your team’s 9th-place finish at the 14U Alliance Nationals this past summer? I am so proud of how we did not only that tournament, but all summer. It was really great for us to be seeing a high level of competition from all around the nation and every game we played caused us to get better. We fought hard for our spot and we got to show that even though we’re from Minnesota, we are meant to be at these big tournaments. We fought hard until the end and we lost to a phenomenal team. Next year, we’ll come back even stronger.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? Our toughest opponent was definitely the OC Batbusters-Stith team. They were fluid with every play and they played at a faster level that we weren’t at, yet.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? I have been fortunate enough not to have had any major problems that I’ve had to overcome. All of my problems have been minor like minor ankle sprains and disciplining myself to continue to get better off the field. However, even these minor problems have shaped my hard-working personality, which forces me to be the best I can be every day.

Carly Meyer of Midwest Speed. Photo by Nicole Meyers.

What are you looking for in a future college? I am looking for a college with a great program that I want to major in (still deciding what I want to do), a great community and nearby activities to do outside of school. For school size, I don’t want a super tiny school. I’m fine with any mid-sized school.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I am interested in biomedical sciences and engineering and potentially sports medicine. All of these occupations would allow me to contribute towards a more advanced medical world, meaning I would get to help people in a significant way.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? My favorite subject is math because there are logical steps for every problem and it correlates into real-world scenarios.

Who is your sports hero and why? My softball sports hero is Grace Lyons. She’s an incredible player with the best attitude and she shares similar values to me.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? I really enjoy reading “Legend” by Marie Lu because there are so many moving parts to the story that it keeps it interesting the whole time.

What’s your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is “Mulan” because it gives a great message of perseverance and it doesn’t get boring.

What’s the best hype song and why? The best hype song is “Clouds” by NF because it’s up-beat and gets you in the mindset to do your best.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? I like to binge the “Gilmore Girls” because there are new elements in each episode and you can easily jump in at any episode and know what’s going on.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? I am surprisingly good at cooking and baking.

Recruiting: (Updated) McDaniel Commits to Oklahoma (Sept. 14, 2023)

2025 IF Lexi McDaniel, who is considered one of the top 2025 recruits in the nation, committed to Oklahoma, she announced on Twitter on Wednesday.

Lexi McDaniel of Aces Fastpitch Club. Photo courtesy of Aces Fastpitch Club.

McDaniel batted .491 with 24 homers and 97 RBIs this summer, leading Aces Fastpitch Club to a runner-up finish at the 18U Alliance Nationals. She is a junior at St. Joseph Christian High in MO.

“I chose Oklahoma because it is the perfect fit for me,” McDaniel said. “Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always dreamed of playing at the highest level. Oklahoma was the first place I went to camp. I fell in love with it then and every time I went back. Oklahoma to me, was different and set apart. The culture is everything. The OU coaching staff is filled with some of the best people you will ever meet, the fan support is unreal and the players you’re surrounded with are incredible, like-minded people.

“The championship mindset is so true for OU, and the competitive, yet, encouraging atmosphere, is like no other. Oklahoma’s ability to repetitively compete for a national championship while also growing young women in their faith is so special. I found my home in Norman, Oklahoma and I cannot wait to be a Sooner. Boomer!”

McDaniel was Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso’s fourth highly-touted commitment in the Class of 2025 since Sept. 1, joining 2025 RHP/1B Sophia Bordi, 2025 C/3B/1B Kendall Wells and 2025 RHP/MIF Allyssa Parker at Oklahoma, the three-time defending WCWS national champion.

“Lexi is one of the hardest workers I know,” Aces coach Ryan Taylor said. “She constantly shows up and just works. Her commitment to greatness will fit in well at Oklahoma.”

Recruiting: Hinde Chooses Florida State (Sept. 14, 2023)

Anna Hinde of Team NC-Hinde committed to Florida State. Photo courtesy of Anna Hinde.

2025 3B/C Anna Hinde, who is considered one of the top 2025 prospects in the country, chose to commit to Florida State, she announced on Twitter on Wednesday.

Anna Hinde of Team NC-Hinde. Photo courtesy of Anna Hinde.

Hinde is a two-time NCISAA 4A state champion at Charlotte Christian High in NC. She batted .606 with 13 HRs and 41 RBIs for Charlotte Christian as a sophomore.

Hinde, who has a 1.67-1.68 pop time, plays club softball for Team NC 18U-Hinde. She played in the PGF All-American Futures Game this past summer.

Hinde said she narrowed her choices to the top 6 after Sept. 1, which was the first day 2025s were allowed to have contact with college coaches.

“My goal was to try to find my perfect fit before our fall travel ball season was set to begin in mid-October so I scheduled six visits in five weeks,” Hinde said. “My first visit happened this past weekend at Florida State University. I already knew a lot about their program having attended many camps over the past several years and had a clear understanding of how important team culture is for the Noles. FSU was always a top school in my mind, but I thought I would visit a few schools before making a decision. The last day of my visit, prior to our final meeting just before the football game, I had the ‘when you know, you know’ moment and it was crystal clear. At the end of our meeting I told my future coaches I wanted to be a Nole!!”
