Ted Holcomb’s Wildcats’ teams had a very successful run at the PGF Nationals this past summer.

Wildcats-Holcomb/Knight/Kingery placed 7th at the PGF 16U Premier Nationals and Wildcats-Holcomb/Knight placed 5th at the PGF 12U Premier Nationals.

Holcomb’s 16U team lost its first bracket game, then won eight consecutive games before losing to Birmingham Thunderbolts Premier 2024-Kaplan, 3-2, in ITB.

“After losing their first game of bracket play, the team went on an eight-game run through the loser’s bracket, knocking off (and sending home) top teams like 5 Star PlayMakers, I-5, BSC Bengals-Greene, Sparks Premier, Universal Fastpitch(-Macias) and Georgia Impact(-Holcombe),” Holcomb said. “They finally got beat by the Birmingham Bolts Premier-Kaplan team in ITB, 3-2, on a questionable call by the umpire.

“Most of the games were won by one run by scores of 1-0 and 2-1. The team was led by pitchers (2025, RHP/OF) Taylor Mediano and (2025, RHP/1B) Audrey Lopetegui, who both threw in all eight games of the run. Taylor had a 0.95 ERA and Audrey had a 0.85 ERA through PGF. The team ended up taking 7th place.”

Holcomb said Wildcats-Holcomb/Knight, which features Holcomb, Gregg Knight and Chet Kingery as coaches, has finalized its 16U roster for the 2023 fall season.

Wildcats 16U-Holcomb/Knight’s schedule for this fall: PGF September Startup Tournament, Sept. 23-24; PGF October Showcase. Oct. 13-15; PGF Ultimate Challenge, Oct. 20-23; PGF Shootout, Oct. 27-29; PGF Las Vegas Showcase, Nov. 3-5; PGF Early Thanksgiving Showcase, Nov. 17-19; and Toys for Tots Tournament, Dec. 2-3.
