Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? I used to always play against them when we were younger and knew that they were a high-quality team. When the opportunity became available, I chose to join this team! This team, organization and coaches have pushed me to be a better player and developed me into the player I am today. I am always grateful for everything Coach Brett (Sampson) and everyone else in the organization has done for me!

Tell us about your high school team and how you did/are doing? Last year, I didn’t get to play much of high school season because I was still recovering from my injury, however, I did make it back for the end of the season and we didn’t finish how we wanted to. This year, we are off to a great start and we hope to make a great run in the playoffs!!

Can you tell us about Georgia Impact-Sampson’s run to 5th place at the PGF 18U Premier Nationals? We had a great team this summer with lots of talent top-to-bottom. We played a very good first few bracket games and then were put into the loser’s bracket, however, we battled back beating many high-level teams with mostly 23s, and lost our final game in a pitcher’s duel, 1-0. We had a great season and look forward to making a run next year!

Can you talk about your ankle injury, how long you were out, what you did in rehab and how you came back? At the beginning of June in the (PGF) Show Me The Money Tournament, I dislocated my ankle, breaking several bones and tearing several ligaments. I had surgery to repair it, which included screws, plates, wires and anchors in my ankle. The recovery took about 5-6 months. I was blessed to have some of the best physical therapists, a dad who works in the orthopedic world every day, and one of the best surgeons in the Southeast, Dr. Stephen White, at Piedmont Orthopedics Sports Medicine. I worked hard throughout those months at therapy to get my strength back and recover quickly and I started back to catching, hitting and speed and agility workouts as soon as I was cleared to!

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? (Tennessee) Mojo-Danley/Fisher. They are always a tough opponent that we play and it’s usually always a great game! They have a really great pitching staff and they are a very good hitting team.

What are you looking for in a future college? Can you talk about Sept. 1 and how you are approaching it? I am super excited for Sept. 1 and looking forward to talking to coaches that day! I have tried to stay calm and not be anxious and just be grateful for the opportunities I have. I am looking for a future college that is a family atmosphere where I can play and compete at the highest level and is the right fit for me.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I am interested in something in the Orthopedic world, specifically Orthopedic Surgeon. I have grown up watching my dad work in the Orthopedic world my whole life and want to work with athletes and help people with injuries just like mine that I had last year!

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? Math. I am currently taking AP Calc and really enjoy math and the problem-solving in it! The reason I really love math is because it’s a logic course. There is no could be this or could be that of math.

Who is your sports hero and why? Tim Tebow and the way he advocates for his Christianity.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? I am not really a huge reader, but I did really enjoy the book “The Outsiders” (by S.E. Hinton).

What’s the best hype song and why? My team and I love the songs “Fireball” (by Pitbull) and “All of the Lights” (by Kanye West), because our coach Scotty (Lowry) had told us to play like fireballs and my teammates and I love to play at night under the lights!

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? “Chicago Fire.” I love the drama and the action.

What’s your favorite movie and why? “Remember the Titans.” I love the messages and motivation of the movie.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? Riding Horses. My family has five barrel-racing horses.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? I play for Indiana Magic Gold-Bennett/Goddard. I have been with my head coaches since 8U and I have never played for anybody else. This organization and team have created a family-like culture where everyone has each other’s backs and we all work harder to become better for one another. There is always someone there to step up when you are struggling and I know that I will do the same for any of my teammates. I love this team and these coaches. They have made me a better player and a better person. Playing for this team has been one of the best experiences of my life.

Tell us about your high school team and how you did? Playing varsity as a freshman can be very intimidating, but my high school teammates were so welcoming and they made it easy to connect with them. We work hard and have fun playing together. One of the best things about this team is that we never give up. That attitude and work ethic led to us winning the first ever sectional championship in school history this past season. I had a solid freshman season, tying the single-season singles record, being named Rookie of the Year and making 2nd Team All-Conference. We’re looking forward to making an even deeper post-season run this coming year.

Makayla Watson of Indiana Magic Gold-Bennett/Goddard. Photo by Casey Watson.

Can you talk about your team’s runner-up finish at the 14U Alliance Nationals? I am super proud of our team and the hard work we have put in the past few years to get to this point. My coaches have always talked about trusting the process and we have done that without training and preparation. Since our team is like a family, we are able to trust each other in these big games and moments, which helped lead us to this amazing finish.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? OC Batbusters-Stith/Black has been our toughest opponent. They are a solid, high-quality team that brings their best every time they play.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? There was time I faced a lack of confidence and struggled with the ability to pick myself up after mistakes and rough games. This period of my life challenged me to work through the mental part of my game. Learning how to manage the mental aspects not only helped build my confidence and make me a better player, but also helps me in situations outside of softball and something that I will use my whole life.

Makayla Watson of Westfield High. Photo by Klaine Tanner.

What are you looking for in a future college? I am looking for a college that has strong academics, a coaching staff that has built a good team culture where I am being pushed to be a better athlete and person but feels like family. If I lost the ability to play softball, I could still see myself going to school there.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? Some areas that I am interested in are working for a professional sports team in media/communications because I love being around sports or being a dermatologist because I can help people feel better about their skin and how they present themselves.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? My favorite subject is Modern World History because I love learning about the two World Wars. I find the details and different battles in each war are really interesting.

Who is your sports hero and why? My sports hero is Anthony Rizzo because of how he approaches the game and he’s always happy on the field. He taught me that having fun is a crucial part of how you play.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? My favorite book is “Divergent” (by Veronica Roth) because it has a great plot and I love reading about the different societies in the dystopian world.

What’s the best hype song and why? I don’t really have a hype song. I usually listen to rain sounds before my games to get me relaxed, calm and focused. I find that it slows my mind down and helps me not overthink things during the game.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? “Grey’s Anatomy” because I find all of the medical cases and emergencies interesting and I like following along with all of the drama-filled lives of the doctors.

What’s your favorite movie and why? “Harry Potter: Deathly Hollows Part 2” because my favorite scene from the book, Voldemort thinking that Harry is dead and then Harry rolling our of Hagrid’s arms to battle with Voldemort, is captured perfectly.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? Juggling.

Stella Christie of Tampa Mustangs-Fowler slides into second base. Photo by Meredith Bartkin.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? I started playing softball when I was 6 (years old). I played rec ball for a while and then switched to a very localized travel ball team. When I was 12 (years old), I realized that I had a passion for the game and that I wanted to go to the next level. That is when I found Kyle Fowler’s team. The first time I tried out for the team, I didn’t make it. Kyle referred me to another coach that needed a player. I worked really hard to improve, more workouts, extra practices and much more. When I tried out again the next season, I made the team.

Can you tell us about your team’s run to 3rd place at the PGF (14U Premier) Nationals? Our team faced lots of good teams throughout the entire tournament. We pushed each other hard and had each other’s backs. Their support helped me perform as well as I did.

Stella Christie of Tampa Mustangs-Fowler. Photo by Meredith Bartkin.

Can you tell us about your future high school team? As I enter my freshman year, I am very excited to be working with my high school coach and all my new teammates as well.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? The Birmingham Thunderbolts-Thompson has always been a very good team. We have gone back and forth a lot and I think that our teams make a very good game every time.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? Last year, my mom was diagnosed with cancer. It was a very difficult time for my family and me to go through. During this time, there were tons of factors that couldn’t be controlled. I felt like the only thing that I could control was softball. To be quite honest, it saved me. I put all my emotions into it when I could. I pushed myself to breaking points and it helped me get through.

What are you looking for in a future college? I am looking for a supportive team, a great atmosphere and an encouraging coach.

Stella Christie of Tampa Mustangs-Fowler. Photo by Meredith Bartkin.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? As I enter high school, I don’t know 100 percent what I want to do, but I like the medical field or something in science.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? Science would have to be my favorite because I like doing labs and dissecting things.

Who is your sports hero and why? Simone Biles is my favorite because she puts every little thing she has into gymnastics. I also don’t understand how she is able to do most of the things she does, so it fascinates me.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? It has to be the “Harry Potter” series. J. K. Rowling, in my opinion, did a phenomenal job putting together the storyline.

What’s the best hype song and why? I listen to “Layers” by NF before every game. It helps me get my mindset in check.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? “The Good Doctor” is my favorite. It’s a show about an autistic surgeon.

What’s your favorite movie and why? I like horror movies and Marvel movies. Any movie from these genres, I like to watch.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? I can juggle and I am an unbeatable Wii tennis champion.

Impact Gold 2K9 National at the 2023 AFCS. Photo provided by Jared Bryant.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? I wanted to be a part of one of the top programs in the country. It all started with a chance. Coach (Jared) Bryant asked me to come work out with his team one weekend and the rest is history. It’s a day I can’t forget — I have a scar above my eyebrow to help me remember — during the team scrimmage a hard-hit groundball to left field took a bad hop and popped me in the face and my sunglasses cut me. Most importantly, I finished the play!

Tell us about your club team’s 3rd-place finish at 14U Alliance Nationals after winning the 12U Alliance national title the previous summer? Even though I wasn’t officially on the team, yet, last summer when we won the 12U Alliance, I was on the edge of my seat watching on GameChanger. This summer in the 14U Alliance, coaches from other teams kept saying things like, “Wow, y’all are a really strong team, y’all shouldn’t have even gotten this far as a first-year 14U?!” My team and I were like, “Well, this is what we do…?” We set out to win the tournament and got to play the best teams in the nation. Third place isn’t bad, but we will be back to reclaim our title next year.

Kierstyn Lambeth of Impact Gold 2K9 National. Photo by Keri Lambeth.

Can you tell us about your future high school team? I will be a freshman at Clear Creek High in League City, Texas. Looking forward to playing with top recruit for 2025, Khamari Hall, and other amazing teammates.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? We get to play top teams in every tournament we attend. The top-three opponents would have to be Hotshots National, Tennessee Mojo-Palmer and Indiana Magic Gold-Bennett/Goddard. All these teams have elite pitching and stellar defense. We love a good challenge!

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? Losing one of my best friends and teammates, Morgan “Mo” Wilson, has been one of the most difficult things to overcome. Even though it has been tough, I know that she would want me to keep playing hard and keep reaching for my goals. So now every time I step on the field, I play for Mo and my teammates. #foreverMo3 #IPlayForMo

What are you looking for in a future college? I want to continue playing softball in college but also understand the importance of a strong education. So I’m looking for a Division 1 University with a strong, confident coach that will help me become the best student-athlete I can be.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? Right now, I plan to major in Kinesiology or Sports Administration because I want to be a college softball coach one day.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? Art! I have been lucky to have some of the best art teachers growing up. I love to paint and draw.

Who is your sports hero and why? Taylor Pleasants from LSU. She’s a power lefty from the Houston area too and I’ve grown up watching her play. She has a high softball IQ and is fun to watch on the field.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? I just finished “The Summer I Turned Pretty” series. It’s full of twists and turns and was hard for me to put down. Some days I’d just sit by the pool and read.

What’s the best hype song and why? I listen to all kinds of music — but one of my favs is “Venom” by Eminem.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? “Bones.” I love the suspense and all the problem-solving by a strong female character.

What’s your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is “A League of Their Own” because it made me laugh and cry and it proved that girls can truly do anything.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? Hunting is one of my skills. This past deer season I actually won the “Big Buck Contest” with an 8-pointer I harvested.

THE FINAL PITCH: MGGIE KRAUSE

Uncommitted 2026 LHP/1B Maggie Krause recently talked to Dugout Chatter about Louisville Lady Sluggers-Huecker/Norwood, Northview High, Beverly Bandits Premier-Norwood’s 3rd-place finish at PGF Nationals, Virginia Unity 2026-Johnson and Hotshots 2K26, nothing gets handed to you, future college, medical engineering, math, Paige Parker, “Verity,” Rage Against The Machine, “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Lemonade Mouth” and deer hunting.

THE FINAL PITCH Q&A

Name: Maggie Krause

Hometown: Brazil, IN

High School: Northview High

Club Team: Louisville Lady Sluggers-Huecker/Norwood 16U

Graduation Year: 2026

Height: 5-foot-7

Position: LHP/1B

Nickname: Mag-Pie. My dad has called me this since I was a baby.

Twitter/Instagram: @maggie_krause21/@krause_maggie

Honors: Academic letter for Academic Honors; set the single-season strikeout record for Northview High School as a freshman; WIC All-Conference as a freshman; and MVP Award for Northview High.

Travel Ball Fall Stats: Pitching — 2.625 ERA, 1.275 WHIP, .244 batting average against and 76 Ks; Batting — .250 AVG, .351 OBP and .375 SLG.

Travel Ball Summer Stats: Pitching — 1.615 ERA, 0.946 WHIP, .189 batting average against and 109 Ks; Batting — .323 AVG, .382 OBP and .452 SLG.

High School Stats: Pitching — 1.726 ERA, .829 WHIP, .170 batting average against and 275 Ks; Batting — .390 AVG, .457 OBP and .841 SLG.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? Before moving to the Sluggers, our team was with the Beverly Bandits. We were with them for five years. We recently decided that it was time for a change and that is when Coach (Jim) Huecker and our team got together for a meeting. We then decided as a team that moving to the Sluggers would be best for us. Staying together was extremely important to our team, so when everyone decided to move along with Coach Scott (Norwood), we knew we had something special.

Tell us about your high school team and how you did? In our high school season, we went 18-9. We had five freshman starters and three seniors. We had a team that fought hard no matter what the score was and that is something that is extremely special. Our team was a very tight-knit group and the future is bright for the upcoming seasons.

Beverly Bandits Premier-Norwood at the 2023 PGF Nationals. Photo provided by Scott Norwood.

Can you tell us about Beverly Bandits Premier-Norwood’s run to 3rd place at the PGF Nationals? I don’t even know where to start. We all had set a goal at the beginning of the year for the team and we wanted that back-back-back. We all knew going into the season that we would have to work harder than we ever had. In our team huddle before every game, Coach (Josh) Vanmeeter started saying, “Whatever you do, be productive.” He wanted us to make every single thing we did productive no matter how big or small it was. Every game during warm-ups, we played our music and started zoning in only talking about the game. I think that really made a difference in how we played. We took a heartbreaking loss against the Atlanta Vipers that knocked us into the loser’s bracket for Saturday. After that, we fought hard all day until reaching the Birmingham Thunderbolts where we ran out of gas. It was an emotional day, as it was our last game in a Bandits’ uniform and also not reaching our goal, but we knew that exciting things were coming and that we had left it all on the field.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? As a team, I would say that the VA Unity-Johnson and the Hotshots 2K26 have been our toughest opponents this year because they are such offensively sound teams. Personally, though, I think that my biggest competition is the other two pitchers on my team. All three of us know that we have to put in the work and try to outwork each other to get where we want. I think that has been one of the best things for me as a player is always having competition inside the team. We all push each other to be the best players we can be.

Maggie Krause of Northview High. Photo by Morgan Made Photography.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? My parents have always instilled in me to work hard for what I want and nothing gets handed to you. That has really made me who I am today.

What are you looking for in a future college? In a future college, I am looking for good coaches, a good environment and good schooling.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I am interested in something with medical engineering. My mom is a nurse and my dad was a police officer, so I want to do something where I can help people.

Maggie Krause of Louisville Lady Sluggers-Huecker/Norwood. Photo courtesy of Maggie Krause.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? My favorite subject is math. I like math because there is always a definite answer.

Who is your sports hero and why? My sports hero is Paige Parker. She was the reason that I wanted to start pitching. I remember watching her pitch when I was little when Oklahoma was playing Florida in the championship. She was a lefty and that amazed me because I wanted to be just like her.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? My favorite book to read is “Verity” by Colleen Hoover. This is my favorite book because it is a mystery book with a huge plot twist.

What’s the best hype song and why? The best hype song without a doubt is “Killing In the Name” by Rage Against the Machine. Me and my dad listen to this before every game in the car right before we pull in.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? “Greys Anatomy” because every time I rewatch it it feels like there is something new every time.

What’s your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is “Lemonade Mouth” because the soundtrack is Chef’s Kiss.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? I am an avid deer hunter.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? In 2019, I played in the USA Softball All-American Games with a bunch of random girls from other teams. We meshed really well together from the beginning and decided to continue playing with each other. It’s been almost five years since we all first met. We’ve lost some girls on the way, but we’ve also gained a lot. We are a really talented group that has become family and played proud under the Oklahoma Athletics organization run by Brian Madden.

Tell us about your high school team and how you did? My High School team is a really great group and we’ve left our mark in our small town. We made a lot of accomplishments last year, by being District champs and hosting our first Regionals in a long time. We are hoping this year turns out even better by a run in the state tournament.

Can you talk about your team’s run to a 7th-place finish at 16U Alliance Nationals? In Colorado, we got to compete in the Stage 3 Alliance Super Cup and we came out on top. We were then seeded in the #1 spot for the Alliance Nationals in Chino Hills, CA. We were super stoked as this was a great accomplishment, for not only our team, but for our organization as a whole. We were undefeated and playing at our peak performance all the way up until the Elite 8. I thought we played great, but in the end the odds just weren’t in our favor and we didn’t come out on top like we expected.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? We played Virginia Unity-Johnson/Ross in the Colorado Sparkler championship and they were by far our best competition. They had a great pitching staff overall and 1-9 hit the ball very well. I loved competing against girls who were already committed very highly and girls that will potentially be at that level in the coming years.

Harlie Chism of Weatherford High. Photo by Wendy Vaquez.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? Change has always been my biggest obstacle. I don’t like to be uncomfortable with what I do, who I’m around or where I live. However, I’ve learned to be comfortable with the uncomfortable and stepping out of my comfort zone

What are you looking for in a future college? A great coaching staff. If I have to see these coaches every day, I want to love them like they are my parents. The feedback that I get is important and the way they treat their players is huge to me. I also want to find a place that I know I could live for four years, even without softball.

What are your thoughts about Sept. 1? I’m super excited about all the schools that I’ve talked to already at camps or gotten letters from. This is a date I’ve been working towards my whole life and I’m so grateful to even be in the position that I’m in, in the first place. Typically, I’d be nervous or stressed out, but I’m trusting that God has a plan for me and he is going to put me where I belong for the next four years of my life.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I’m not quite sure what I want my future occupation to be, but I do want to be involved in the coaching atmosphere or just working with athletes and students in general.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? I’m taking AP Psychology right now and I’m super interested in how the mind works.

Who is your sports hero and why? Sis Bates forever and ever. She has always been my biggest role model since I first started playing softball. I love the energy she brings to the field, whether it’s her worst game or her best game. Not only is she best for her ESPN defensive plays, but she is just one of the greatest human beings I’ve ever been around.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? I don’t read many books unless it’s for English class. 😂

What’s the best hype song and why? “Praise” by Elevation Worship. It’s a very recent song, but it’s been my “go-to” song before games since it came out. It not only gets me feeling good, but reminds me who gave me my ability and who I’m truly playing for.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? I’m a huge “Manifest” girl. I love the suspense throughout the whole Netflix series. It takes three whole seasons to truly unravel why this plane went missing in the first place.

What’s your favorite movie and why? “Footloose” 2011 film will always be my favorite movie. I love Kenny Wormald, I love the dancing, but I also love the whole moral behind the movie.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? I can twitch my ears without moving any other part of my face.

Honors: Two-time USA Softball All-American (2020 & 2021); Rookie All-American; Golden Valley League Scholar Award (2023); and Most Valuable Offensive Player for Golden Valley (2023).

Kale’a Tindal of OC Batbusters-K. Stith/Black. Photo by Cal Tindal.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? The Batbusters organization and my coaches are amazing. When I first came into the organization, I was shocked about how close-knit the teams were to one another. Before the Batbusters, I never really had the opportunity to train with other players from other teams, so when I arrived it was so much fun getting the chance to meet players outside of my team. I heard great things about the team and the organization and I had an opportunity to meet with the head, Mike Stith. After the meeting, we were given the opportunity to join the new 14U team being put together.

Tell us about your high school team and how you did? During Freshman year of high school, I was with a school called Golden Valley (High). I truly enjoyed playing with all of the girls and had so much fun with them throughout the season. Our team was very young, since most of us were underclassmen. Even though we did not get as far as we wanted to, it was fun to represent our school.

OC Batbusters-K. Stith/Black won the 14U Alliance national title at the 2023 AFCS. Photo provided by Katie Stith.

Can you tell us about your team’s run to the 14U Alliance national championship? Before the Alliance tournament, our team battled through other tournaments, including ones in Oklahoma, Colorado and Georgia. After these, our team’s mindset was to go out with a bang and finish our summer with a national championship. During the tournament, we really tried to focus on taking it one game at a time and to not get overwhelmed.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? We played a lot of great teams throughout this season. In the fall, I would say Athletics Mercado-Hovermale was our toughest opponent. In previous tournaments, they continuously put up runs against our team and had consistent hitting. During the summer, I felt like Indiana Magic (Gold)-Bennett/Goodard has been our toughest opponent because of their pitching. While we were in Georgia, we faced Indiana Magic in the semifinals, but we were unable to put up any runs against them. When we played them again in this championship, we were definitely preparing to face some tough pitching.

Kale’a Tindal of OC Batbusters-K. Stith/Black. Photo by Cal Tindal.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? In the past, especially in school, I was extremely quiet and would only give short answers when spoken to. I never liked to raise my hand in class or volunteer for things. Playing center field helped me to come out of my shyness. I remember when my recreational tournament team coaches put me in the outfield and told me that I would have to be more vocal, especially to avoid collisions with teammates. That stayed with me and gave me the confidence to speak to others and have conversations.

What are you looking for in a future college? I hope to find a college that will have a diverse and inclusive campus as well as a competitive aerospace engineering program. Also, I would like to find a college with a competitive softball program.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I am interested in science-based occupations and I would love to work at NASA someday. I would like to be an aerospace engineer because I could potentially be a part of the exploration of space.

Kale’a Tindal of Golden Valley High. Photo by Cal Tindal.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? Science is my favorite subject to study in school. I would really like to learn more about the things we take for granted and use on a daily basis, making science my favorite subject.

Who is your sports hero and why? Allyson Felix is my sports hero because of the hardships she faced and what she did outside of track and field. I find it really inspiring how she went through struggles during her pregnancy and was still able to push through and be an elite athlete afterwards. Also, I admire her dedication to women’s empowerment and her support of maternal health.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? My favorite book to read is “The Inheritance Games” by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I have always been a fan of mystery books starting when I used to read Nancy Drew. I really was captivated by the constant mystery that the main character has to face, the threats coming her way and the pressure that is put upon her being a billionaire. I really like how it puts me in another person’s shoes, even though her situation is not common.

What’s the best hype song and why? The best hype song is “Lose Control” by Missy Elliott because I find that the beat is exciting and has great energy.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? My favorite TV show to binge right now is “Abbott Elementary” because of how it reminds me of what elementary school was like. It is really interesting to watch something you remember told from another perspective and be able to laugh at it at the same time.

What’s your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is “Hidden Figures” because of the inspiring story it tells about three black women, who work at NASA. This movie is also my favorite because it introduced me to the idea of working in the space industry.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? I really love to crochet, which is something I taught myself to do to make things for the house. Usually, I make blankets or scarves for my family.

“After losing their first game of bracket play, the team went on an eight-game run through the loser’s bracket, knocking off (and sending home) top teams like 5 Star PlayMakers, I-5, BSC Bengals-Greene, Sparks Premier, Universal Fastpitch(-Macias) and Georgia Impact(-Holcombe),” Holcomb said. “They finally got beat by the Birmingham Bolts Premier-Kaplan team in ITB, 3-2, on a questionable call by the umpire.

“Most of the games were won by one run by scores of 1-0 and 2-1. The team was led by pitchers (2025, RHP/OF) Taylor Mediano and (2025, RHP/1B) Audrey Lopetegui, who both threw in all eight games of the run. Taylor had a 0.95 ERA and Audrey had a 0.85 ERA through PGF. The team ended up taking 7th place.”

Holcomb said Wildcats-Holcomb/Knight, which features Holcomb, Gregg Knight and Chet Kingery as coaches, has finalized its 16U roster for the 2023 fall season.

Wildcats 16U-Holcomb/Knight’s schedule for this fall: PGF September Startup Tournament, Sept. 23-24; PGF October Showcase. Oct. 13-15; PGF Ultimate Challenge, Oct. 20-23; PGF Shootout, Oct. 27-29; PGF Las Vegas Showcase, Nov. 3-5; PGF Early Thanksgiving Showcase, Nov. 17-19; and Toys for Tots Tournament, Dec. 2-3.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? My travel team is an extension of my family. We are a very closeknit group that has great chemistry. I’ve been with my team since it started in second-year 12U. I knew I wanted to play against the best competition, so the Vipers were a natural choice.

Tell us about your high school team and how you did? Last year, my high school team went 20-12 and lost during playoffs. All of us have been playing with each other for a while through middle school ball etc. I had a great freshman year with a .346 BA, .953 OPS and .535 SLG. For pitching, I had 108 innings, 104 strikeouts and only 26 walks. For fielding, I had a percentage of .918. It was the first time our school made it past the first round, so I was proud to contribute to our success.

Can you tell us about your experience at PGF 14U Premier Nationals and your team’s runner-up finish? I had so much fun this year at Nationals. This was my team’s third year, so we knew what to expect. We set a goal to stay in the winner’s bracket and to finish better than the year before. We knew we had a shot at the title and every day we played for each other. Even though runner-up isn’t how we wanted to finish, we still fought hard as a team. I couldn’t be more proud.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? I think our toughest opponent has been (Birmingham) Thunderbolts-Thompson, just because they beat us for the Natty. They have a very good small-ball game and we didn’t make adjustments quickly enough.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? My biggest problem I had to overcome was my fear of failure and letting my team down. It made me the player I am today because I had to learn how to let loose and not see failure as a bad thing, but a learning experience for me to get better.

What are you looking for in a future college? I’m looking for a top program that is focused on player development and competing. I also want to be able to exhibit all my talents, all while being able to pursue a degree in nursing.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I am interested in being a nurse practitioner because ever since I was little I wanted to become a doctor or a vet, and as I got older I narrowed it down to a nurse practitioner because it’s right under being a doctor and you do some similar things. I also really enjoy science and the study of the body, so I think this is something I see myself doing.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? My favorite subject is science because I like the hands-on aspect because I feel like I learn better that way.

Who is your sports hero and why? My sports hero is Kobe Bryant because I loved the way he played his game and his mentality. He gave his all 110 percent of the time and I strive to put my all into everything I do, just like him.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? My favorite book to read was “The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas. I like that book so much because it portrays real-life scenarios and how the characters overcame those challenges.

What’s the best hype song and why? I think the best hype-up song before a game is “Seek & Destroy” by SZA. It has the perfect amount of soothing, and upbeat to it to hype me up before a game.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? My favorite TV show to watch is “All American” because it’s about an athlete, who is dealing with the external factors of his friends being in gangs, him trying to help everybody out, his relationships with his friends, all while trying to get recruited.

What’s your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is “The Sandlot” because it brings back a lot of childhood memories for me.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? As my secret talent, I am an exceptional drawer and love to paint
